Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 4058

It is narrated from Wahb bin Munabbih (may Allah have mercy on him) that he was asked about Idris (peace be upon him): who he was and in what era he lived. He said: "He is the grandfather of Nuh (peace be upon him), who is called Khanukh, and he is alive in Paradise." And Muhammad bin Ishaq bin Yasar (may Allah have mercy on him) said: "Idris (peace be upon him) was the first of the children of Adam to be given prophethood, and he is Akhnukh bin Yarid bin Ahlalil bin Qaynan bin Nashir bin Shith bin Adam."

Hadith Grading
Hadith Takhrij «
Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Grading: Its chain is "wahin" (very weak); Ahmad called 'Abd al-Mun'im a liar, as al-Dhahabi said in his "Talkhis". Al-Salihi declared it very weak in "Subul al-Huda" (1/317).
Reference / Source: However, it is established from Wahb bin Munabbih through another route: Abu al-Shaykh al-Asbahani narrated it in "al-'Azamah" (1058) via 'Abd al-Samad bin Ma'qil, from his paternal uncle Wahb bin Munabbih.

Note / Clarification: This is how it appears in our manuscripts, whereas in al-Salihi's "Subul al-Huda wa al-Rashad" (1/319) it reads: "Akhnukh bin Yard bin Mahlalil bin Qaynan (also called Qaynin) bin Yanish (also called Anush) bin Shith".

Reference / Source: It is in "Sirat Ibn Hisham" (1/3), and via him al-Tahawi narrated it in "Sharh Mushkil al-Athar" (14/385) from Ziyad bin 'Abdullah al-Bakka'i, and al-Tabari narrated it in his "Tarikh" (1/169-170) via Salamah bin al-Fadl; both from Ibn Ishaq. In the lineage given by both of them it reads "bin Yard" (instead of "bin Yazid") and "Yanish" (instead of "Nashir").
