Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 4033

It is narrated from Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) took her by the hand, pointed towards the moon and said: "Seek refuge with Allah from the evil of this, for this is the darkening one (the moon) when it becomes dark."
The chain of this hadith is sahih (authentic), but the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it.

Grading: The hadith is sahih, and this chain is good (jayyid) on account of al-Harith bin Abd al-Rahman, who is saduq and there is no harm in him, and he has been corroborated. Ibn Abi Dhi'b is Muhammad bin Abd al-Rahman, and Abu Salamah is Ibn Abd al-Rahman bin 'Awf.
Reference / Source: Ahmad (40/24323, 42/25711, 43/25802, 26000), al-Tirmidhi (3366) and al-Nasa'i (10064, 10065) recorded it via various routes from Ibn Abi Dhi'b, with this chain. In some narrations in Ahmad and al-Nasa'i, his maternal uncle al-Mundhir bin Abi al-Mundhir is paired with him, and he is fit for consideration. Al-Tirmidhi said: This hadith is hasan sahih.
Note / Clarification: "Al-ghasiq": the dark one.
Note / Clarification: As for his words "idha waqab", al-Sindi explained in his marginal notes on "al-Musnad": that is, when it sets. It is called "ghasiq" because when it begins to rise and to set its colour darkens due to the vapours rising from the earth at the horizon, and when it sets, the wicked spread out for theft and immorality.
