Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 4034

حدَّثنا علي بن حَمْشَاذَ العَدْل، حدَّثنا محمد بن المغيرة السُّكَّري، حدَّثنا القاسم بن الحَكَم، حدَّثنا سفيان، عن عاصم، عن زياد بن ثُوَيب (1)، عن أبي هريرة قال: جاء النبي ﷺ يَعودُني فقال: "ألا أرقيكَ برُقْيةٍ رَقَاني بها جبريلُ ﵇؟ " فقلت: بَلَى، بأبي وأمي، قال: "باسم الله أرقيك، والله يَشْفيك من كل داءٍ فيك، من شرِّ النَّفاثاتِ في العُقَد، ومن شرِّ حاسدٍ إذا حَسَد"، فرَقَى بها ثلاثَ مرات (2). ﷽ [

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came to visit me (when I was ill) and said: "Shall I not perform over you the ruqyah that Jibril (peace be upon him) performed over me?" I said: "Of course! May my father and mother be sacrificed for you." He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: 'Bismillahi arqik, wallahu yashfik min kulli da'in fik, min sharri al-naffathati fi al-'uqad, wa min sharri hasidin idha hasad' (In the name of Allah I perform ruqyah over you, and Allah will cure you of every illness that is in you, from the evil of those who blow on knots, and from the evil of the envier when he envies). So he (peace and blessings be upon him) performed this ruqyah three times.

(1) في النسخ الخطية: ثوب، والمثبت من المطبوع وهو الصواب الموافق لمصادر ترجمته.
Note / Clarification: The manuscripts have "Thawb", and what has been established in the text is from the printed edition, which is correct and agrees with the sources of his biography.
(2) المرفوع منه - دون قصة أبي هريرة - صحيح لغيره، وهذا إسناد ضعيف لضعف عاصم - وهو ابن عبيد الله العُمري - وجهالة شيخه، إذ لم يرو عنه غيره. سفيان: هو الثوري.
Grading: Its marfu' part (without the story of Abu Hurayrah, may Allah be pleased with him) is sahih li-ghayrihi, but this chain is da'if due to the weakness of 'Asim (Ibn Ubaydullah al-'Umari) and the jahalah (unknown status) of his shaykh, since no one but him narrated from him. Sufyan is al-Thawri.
وأخرجه أحمد 15/ (9757)، وابن ماجه (3524)، والنسائي (10775) من طريقين عن سفيان الثوري، بهذا الإسناد.
Reference / Source: Ahmad (15/9757), Ibn Majah (3524) and al-Nasa'i (10775) recorded it via two routes from Sufyan al-Thawri, with this chain.
ويشهد له حديث عائشة عند مسلم (2185)، وحديث أبي سعيد عنده أيضًا (2186).
Corroborating chains and supporting reports: It is supported by the hadith of 'A'ishah (may Allah be pleased with her) in Muslim (2185), and also by the hadith of Abu Sa'id (may Allah be pleased with him) in Muslim (2186).
وحديث عمار بن ياسر، وسيأتي عند المصنف برقم (5786).
Corroborating chains and supporting reports: And the hadith of 'Ammar bin Yasir, which will come with the author (al-Hakim) at number (5786).
