It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that he said: "There is no child born except that upon its heart is the whisperer (Satan). If he remembers Allah, it withdraws, and if he becomes heedless, it whispers." And this is the meaning of the words of Allah Almighty: "The whisperer who withdraws" [Surah al-Nas: 4].
This hadith is sahih (authentic) on the condition of the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim), but they did not record it.
(Here the Book of Tafsir is completed. All praise is for Allah, the Lord of the worlds, and blessings and peace be upon our master Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) and his family. From Him alone we seek help.
Imam al-Hakim says that I dictated this in Rabi' al-Akhir, 401 AH: This is an account of the history of the earlier prophets and messengers, their virtues, and their events with their nations, as narrated on the tongue of our master al-Mustafa (peace and blessings be upon him). Imam Bukhari (may Allah have mercy on him) also placed it at this point in al-Jami' al-Sahih, before the beginning of the Shari'ah and the mention of the Companions, so I have followed him. An account of the narrations reported with sahih chains concerning the father of mankind, Sayyiduna Adam (peace be upon him), and his wife Sayyidah Hawwa, when they were sent down to the earth, which the two Shaykhs did not record:)

Grading: The report is sahih, but this chain is da'if due to the weakness of Hakim bin Jubayr, though he has been corroborated. Reference / Source: Al-Bayhaqi recorded it in "Shu'ab al-Iman" (666) from Abu Abdullah al-Hakim, with this chain. 30/ 355. Reference / Source: It is in "Tafsir Abd al-Razzaq" (2/410), and via Abd al-Razzaq al-Tabari recorded it in his "Tafsir" (30/355). Reference / Source: Adam bin Abi Iyas recorded something similar in his "Tafsir" (2/797), and via him al-Diya' al-Maqdisi in "al-Ahadith al-Mukhtarah" (10/172), via al-A'mash; and Ibn Abi Shaybah (13/369), al-Tabari (30/355) and al-Diya' (10/393) via Mansur bin al-Mu'tamir. Both of them narrate it from Sa'id bin Jubayr, with the same chain.
