Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 393

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that Sayyiduna Umar bin al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him), while delivering a sermon at al-Jabiyah, said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) stood among us just as I stand among you and said: "Accept my advice to treat my Companions well," (and then he mentioned the whole hadith in the same way).
This is the first supporting narration (shahid) from Muhammad bin Suqah.

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): In the manuscripts this name has been distorted (tahrif) and written as "al-Muzani", whereas the correct name in light of the biographical works is "al-Murri"; his full name is Uthman bin Sa'id bin Murrah al-Qurashi (a freed client of Sa'id bin al-As), and apparently he is attributed to his grandfather "Murrah".

Grading: This hadith is "sahih", and God willing this chain of it is "hasan", the reason being (the presence in the chain of) the author's shaykh Abu Ahmad, his shaykh Ja'far bin Muhammad, and his shaykh Uthman al-Murri.
Reference / Source: Abu Sa'id bin al-A'rabi narrated it in his "Mu'jam" (1036), and through his route al-Quda'i in "Musnad al-Shihab" (403), via Ibrahim bin Sulayman bin Hayyan al-Hamdani from Uthman bin Sa'id al-Murri with this same chain.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): There is disagreement among the imams about declaring the narrator Ibrahim bin Sulayman trustworthy or weak.
Important point: In this regard, see also the preceding and following narrations.
