حدثنا محمد بن صالح بن هانئ، حدثنا الحسين بن الفضل البَجَلي، حدثنا سُريج بن النُّعمان، حدثنا سُهيل بن أبي حَزْم، حدثنا ثابت البُناني، عن أنس بن مالك قال: سمعتُ رسولَ الله ﷺ قرأَ: ﴿وَمَا يَذْكُرُونَ (1) إِلَّا أَنْ يَشَاءَ اللَّهُ هُوَ أَهْلُ التَّقْوَى وَأَهْلُ الْمَغْفِرَةِ﴾ [المدثر: 56]، قال: "يقول ربُّكم ﷿: أنا أَهلٌ أن أُتَّقَى أن يُجعَلَ معي إلهٌ آخرُ، وأنا أهلٌ لمن اتَّقى أن يَجعَل معى إلهًا آخرَ أن أَغفِرَ له" (2).

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) reciting this verse: "And they will not remember except that Allah wills. He is worthy of being feared and worthy to forgive" [Al-Muddaththir: 56], and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Your Lord, the Mighty and Majestic, says: I am worthy of being feared, and that no other god be set up alongside Me; and whoever fears to associate anyone with Me, I am worthy to forgive him."
This hadith has a sahih (authentic) chain of narration, but the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it.

(1) في النسخ الخطية: "وما تشاؤون" وهو مخالف للتلاوة المجمع عليها في هذه الآية، فما في النسخ وهمٌ من الناسخ، وجاء في مصادر التخريج على الصواب.
Note / Clarification: In the manuscripts it is "wa ma tasha'un", which contradicts the agreed-upon recitation of this verse, so what is in the manuscripts is a "mistake" (wahm) of the copyist, while in the source works it has come correctly.
(2) إسناده ضعيف لضعف سهيل بن أبي حزم.
Grading: Its chain is "da'if" because of the weakness of Suhayl bin Abi Hazm.
وأخرجه أحمد 21 / (13549) عن سريج بن النعمان، بهذا الإسناد.
Reference / Source: Ahmad (21/13549) narrated it from Surayj bin al-Nu'man with this same chain.
وأخرجه أحمد 19 / (12442)، وابن ماجه (4299)، والترمذي (3328)، والنسائي (11566) من طريقين عن سهيل بن أبي حزم، به. وقال الترمذي: هذا حديث غريب وسهيل ليس بالقوي في الحديث، وقد تفرَّد سهيل بهذا الحديث عن ثابت.
Reference / Source: Ahmad (19/12442), Ibn Majah (4299), al-Tirmidhi (3328) and al-Nasa'i (11566) narrated it by two routes from Suhayl bin Abi Hazm, likewise. Al-Tirmidhi said: This hadith is "gharib", Suhayl is not strong in hadith, and Suhayl is "alone" in narrating this hadith from Thabit.
