It is narrated from Sa'd bin Hisham (may Allah have mercy on him) that he said: I said to Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her): Tell me about the recitation of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) (in prayer). She said: When these verses were revealed to him (peace and blessings be upon him): "O you who are wrapped in garments, stand (in prayer) during the night, except for a little" [Al-Muzzammil: 1-2], the Companions stood (in the night prayer, tahajjud) for a year, until their feet became swollen. Then Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, revealed (as a relief) this command: "So recite what is easy of the Qur'an. He knows that there will be among you some who are ill" [Al-Muzzammil: 20].
This hadith has a sahih (authentic) chain of narration, but the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it!

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Grading: This hadith is "sahih", but this chain is "da'if" because of the weakness of al-Hakam bin 'Abd al-Malik al-Qurashi (and for this reason al-Dhahabi declared it defective); however, he has been "corroborated". Reference / Source: Thus Ahmad (40/24269), Muslim (746) and al-Nasa'i (424, 11563) narrated it similarly by way of Sa'id bin Abi 'Arubah; Muslim also by way of Hisham al-Dastuwa'i and Ma'mar; and Ibn Hibban (2551) by way of Ma'mar. All three narrate it from Qatadah with this same chain, within a long hadith. Ma'mar's narration is also in Ahmad (42/25347), but he did not give its wording in full. Reference / Source: See the (narration) after it. (3906). Corroborating chains and supporting reports: It is supported (as a shahid) by the hadith of Ibn 'Abbas that comes later at number (3906). Note / Clarification: The words "'an qira'at Rasul Allah" mean: about his (peace and blessings be upon him) recitation in his night prayer (tahajjud).
