It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both): We used to narrate hadith from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) at a time when lies were not being attributed to him (peace and blessings be upon him), but when people began saying all kinds of things, we stopped narrating hadith from him (peace and blessings be upon him) (out of caution).
Likewise, it has another supporting narration (shahid).

Grading: This report is "sahih", and God willing its chain is "hasan", the reason being its narrator Hisham bin Hujayr. Reference / Source: Imam Muslim narrated it in the introduction of his "Sahih Muslim", chapter number (4), through two routes from Sufyan bin Uyaynah with this same chain. Important point: In this regard, see also the preceding narration.
