Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 386

حدثنا أبو عبد الله محمد بن يعقوب الحافظ، حدثنا محمد بن نُعيم، حدثنا محمد بن رافع، حدثنا علي بن حفص المَدائني، حدثنا شُعْبة، عن خُبَيب بن عبد الرحمن، عن حفص بن عاصم، عن أبي هريرة قال: قال رسول الله ﷺ: "كَفَى بالمَرْءِ إثمًا أن يحدِّثَ بكلِّ ما سَمِعَ" (1). قد ذكر مسلم هذا الحديث في أوساط الحكايات التي ذكرها في خُطْبة الكتاب عن محمد بن رافع (2)، ولم يُخرجه محتجًّا به في موضعه من الكتاب، وعليُّ بن حفص المَدائني ثقة، وقد نبَّهنا في أول الكتاب على الاحتجاج بزيادات الثِّقات. وقد أرسله جماعةٌ من أصحاب شعبة:

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "It is enough sin for a person that he narrates everything he hears (to others without verification)."
Imam Muslim mentioned this hadith in the introduction of his book through Muhammad bin Rafi', but did not record it as evidence in the chapters of the book. Ali bin Hafs al-Mada'ini is trustworthy, and we have already made clear that the additions of trustworthy narrators are accepted.

Grading: Its chain is "sahih".
وأخرجه مسلم في مقدمة "صحيحه" (5)، وأبو داود (4992)، وابن حبان (30) من طريقين عن علي بن حفص المدائني، بهذا الإسناد.
Reference / Source: Imam Muslim narrated it in the introduction to his "Sahih" (5), and Imam Abu Dawud (4992) and Ibn Hibban (30), through two routes from Ali bin Hafs al-Mada'ini with this same chain.
وأخرجه مسلم أيضًا (5) من طريق معاذ العنبري وعبد الرحمن بن مهدي، كلاهما عن شعبة، به.
Reference / Source: Imam Muslim also narrated it (5) from Imam Shu'bah via Mu'adh al-Anbari and Abd al-Rahman bin Mahdi.

(2) بل عن أبي بكر بن أبي شيبة عن علي بن حفص.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Rather, this narration is via Abu Bakr bin Abi Shaybah from Ali bin Hafs.
