حدَّثَنيهِ علي بن حَمْشاذَ، حدثنا موسى بن هارون، حدثنا يحيى بن موسى بن خَتٍّ ببَلْخ، حدثنا عَتّاب بن محمد بن شوذَب، حدثنا كعب بن عبد الرحمن بن كعب بن مالك، عن أبيه قال: قلت لأبي قَتَادة: حدِّثني بشيءٍ سمعتَه من رسول الله ﷺ، قال: أخشى أن يَزِلَّ لساني بشيءٍ لم يَقُلْه رسول الله ﷺ، إني سمعت رسول الله ﷺ يقول: "إيَّاكم وكثْرةَ الحديث عنّي، مَن كَذَبَ عليَّ متعمِّدًا، فليتَبوَّأْ مقعدَه من النار" (2).
Ka'b bin Abd al-Rahman narrates from his father: I said to Sayyiduna Abu Qatadah (may Allah be pleased with him): "Tell me something that you heard from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)." He said: "I fear that my tongue may let slip something that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) did not say, for I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: 'Beware of narrating abundantly from me. Whoever deliberately lies about me, let him take his seat in Hell.'"

(2) حديث حسن بما قبله، عتاب بن محمد بن شوذب وكعب بن عبد الرحمن ليسا بالمشهورَين ¤ ¤ لا يكادان يُعرفان، والمحفوظ في هذا الحديث أنه من رواية معبد بن كعب عن أبي قتادة كما في الحديث السابق.
Grading: This is a "hasan hadith" on the strength of the supporting report of the previous narration.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Attab bin Muhammad and Ka'b bin Abd al-Rahman are not well-known narrators; rather they are hardly known. The "mahfuz" (preserved, correct) version of this hadith is that it is the narration of Ma'bad bin Ka'b from Abu Qatadah, as passed in the previous hadith.
وأخرجه الطبراني في "طرق حديث من كذب علي متعمدًا" (96) عن موسى بن هارون، بهذا الإسناد. وأخرجه الطبراني أيضًا (96)، وابن عدي في "الكامل" 1/ 3 - وعنه ابن الجوزي في مقدمة "الموضوعات" 1/ 71 - من طريق داود بن حماد البلخي، عن عتاب بن محمد بن شوذب، به.
Reference / Source: Imam al-Tabarani narrated it in his book "Turuq Hadith Man Kadhaba 'Alayya Muta'ammidan" (96), and Ibn Adi in "al-Kamil" (1/ 3), and through him Ibn al-Jawzi in the introduction to "al-Mawdu'at" (1/ 71), through the chain of Dawud bin Hammad al-Balkhi from Attab.
