حدثنا أبو عبد الله محمد بن عبد الله الصَّفّار، حدثنا أحمد بن يونس الضَّبِّي، حدثنا محمد بن عُبيد الطَّنافِسي، عن محمد بن إسحاق. وحدثني علي بن حَمْشَاذَ العَدْل، أخبرنا علي بن عبد العزيز، أنَّ سعيد بن منصور حدثهم، حدثنا أبو شِهَاب. وحدثنا أبو القاسم يوسف بن يعقوب السُّوسِي، حدثنا أبو علي محمد بن عمرو الحَرَشي، حدثنا القَعْنَبي، حدثنا أبو شهاب. وحدثني علي بن حَمْشاذَ العَدْل، حدثنا أبو الحسن محمد بن أحمد العُودِي، حدثنا أبو الرَّبيع، حدثنا أبو شهاب، عن محمد بن إسحاق، عن مَعبَد بن كعب بن مالك قال: سمعتُ أبا قَتَادة يقول: سمعت رسول الله ﷺ يقول وهو على المِنبَر: "إيَّاكم وكَثْرة الحديث عنِّي، فمن قالَ عنّي، فلا يقولَنَّ إلّا حقًّا، ومن قال عليَّ ما لم أقُلْ، فليتبَوَّأ مَقعَدَه من النار" (1). وفي حديث محمد بن عُبيد: حدثني ابن كعب وغيرُه عن أبي قتادة.
هذا حديث صحيح على شرط مسلم، وفيه ألفاظٌ صَعْبة شديدة، ولم يُخرجاه. وله شاهد بإسناد آخرَ عن أبي قتادة:

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Qatadah (may Allah be pleased with him): I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say on the pulpit: "Beware of narrating abundantly from me. Whoever says something on my behalf, let him say only the truth. And whoever attributes to me what I did not say, let him take his seat in Hell."
This hadith is sahih (authentic) on the condition of Imam Muslim, and it contains harsh and severe words regarding narrating abundantly, but they did not record it.

(1) إسناده حسن من أجل محمد بن إسحاق ومعبد بن كعب، وابنُ إسحاق صرَّح بالتحديث في رواية محمد بن عبيد الطنافسي. القعنبي: هو عبد الله بن مسلمة، وأبو الربيع: هو سليمان بن داود العَتَكي وأبو شهاب: هو عبد ربه بن نافع الحنّاط.
Grading: This chain is "hasan" because of Muhammad bin Ishaq and Ma'bad bin Ka'b.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Muhammad bin Ishaq explicitly stated his hearing (tahdith) in the narration of Muhammad bin Ubayd al-Tanafisi, which removes the suspicion of his tadlis. Al-Qa'nabi is Abd Allah bin Maslamah, Abu al-Rabi' is Sulayman bin Dawud al-Ataki, and Abu Shihab is Abd Rabbih bin Nafi' al-Hannat.
وأخرجه أحمد 37/ (22538) عن محمد بن عبيد الطنافسي، بهذا الإسناد.
Reference / Source: Imam Ahmad narrated it (37/ 22538) via Muhammad bin Ubayd al-Tanafisi with this same chain.
وأخرجه ابن ماجه (35) من طريق يحيى بن يعلى التيمي، عن ابن إسحاق، به.
Reference / Source: Imam Ibn Majah narrated it (35) through the route of Yahya bin Ya'la al-Taymi from Ibn Ishaq.
وقوله: ومن قال عليَّ … " إلخ، قد روي من أوجه عن النبي ﷺ بلغت حدَّ التواتر، انظر حديث عبد الله بن عمرو في "مسند أحمد" 11/ (6478).
Important point: This part of the hadith, "Whoever attributes to me (a false statement)", is narrated from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) through so many routes that it has reached the level of "mutawatir".
