هذا حديث صحيح على شرط الشيخين، ولم يُخرجاه.
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Salam (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: We all gathered and began discussing among ourselves who among us would go to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and ask him which deeds are most beloved to Allah Almighty. Then we dispersed out of fear, as none of us could muster the courage to ask this question. Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) sent for us and gathered us, and we began pointing to one another. Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) recited these verses to us: "Whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth glorifies Allah, and He is the Almighty, the All-Wise. O you who believe, why do you say what you do not do?" [Surah al-Saff: 1, 2], up to the end of the surah. Abu Salamah said: Abdullah bin Salam recited the whole surah to us from beginning to end. Yahya said: Abu Salamah recited the whole surah to us. Al-Awza'i said: Yahya bin Abi Kathir recited the whole surah to us. Abu Ishaq al-Fazari said: Al-Awza'i recited the whole surah to us. Mu'awiyah bin Amr said: Abu Ishaq al-Fazari recited the whole surah to us. Muhammad bin Ahmad al-Azdi said: Mu'awiyah bin Amr recited the whole surah to us. Abu Bakr bin Balawayh said: Muhammad bin Ahmad bin al-Nadr recited the whole surah to us. Imam al-Hakim says: And I say that Abu Bakr bin Balawayh recited it to us from beginning to end, and al-Hakim Abu Abdullah recited it to us from beginning to end.
This hadith is sahih (authentic) on the condition of the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim), but they did not record it.
