It is narrated from Sayyidah Fatimah bint Utbah bin Rabi'ah that Sayyiduna Abu Hudhayfah bin Utbah brought her and Hind bint Utbah to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) to pledge allegiance. She (Fatimah) said: He (peace and blessings be upon him) took a covenant from us and laid certain conditions upon us. She (Fatimah) said: I said to him (Abu Hudhayfah): O my cousin, have you found any trace of these faults or evils among your people? Abu Hudhayfah said: Enough, be quiet and pledge allegiance, for it is on these very things that allegiance is taken, and these are the conditions that are laid. Then Hind said: I will not pledge allegiance to you on (not) stealing, for I take (what I need) from my husband's wealth. So the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) withdrew his hand and she also withdrew her hand, until he (peace and blessings be upon him) sent word to Abu Sufyan and sought his permission for her. Abu Sufyan said: As for fresh things (food and drink), they are permitted, but dry things (goods and property), absolutely not. She said: Then we pledged allegiance to him (peace and blessings be upon him). Then Fatimah said: (Before,) there was no group more hateful to me than your group, nor did I wish that Allah would give you and your companions dominance; but by Allah, now there is no group dearer to me than your group, that Allah may keep it flourishing and bless it. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "And this is only the beginning. By Allah, none of you can be a complete believer until I am dearer to him than his children and his father."
This hadith has a sahih (authentic) chain, but the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it.

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Note / Clarification: In manuscript (B), here and in what follows, the word is "qubbah" (dome), and it is explicable on the basis that she meant by qubbah a "khiba'" (tent). Corroborating chains and supporting reports: As in the hadith of Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) in Sahih al-Bukhari (3825, 7161) and Sahih Muslim (1714), that Hind bint Utbah said: "O Messenger of Allah, there were no people of a tent (ahl khiba') on the face of the earth whose humiliation was dearer to me than that of the people of your tent; then today there are no people of a tent on the face of the earth whose honour is dearer to me than that of the people of your tent". Technical note / Defect ('illah): The preserved (mahfuz) version is that it was Hind bint Utbah who said this, not her sister Fatimah bint Utbah, as occurs in this narration of the author (al-Hakim). Note / Clarification: Here the meaning of "fi'ah" (group/party) is to be taken as the household (Ahl al-Bayt) of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him).
Grading: If Allah wills, its chain is "hasan" because of Isma'il bin Abi Uways, and he has been corroborated. Technical note / Defect ('illah): Isma'il's brother is "Abu Bakr Abd al-Hamid bin Abi Uways". Ibn Ajlan is "Muhammad bin Ajlan", and his father Ajlan al-Madani was the freed slave (mawla) of Fatimah bint Utbah. Reference / Source: Al-Tabarani recorded it in abridged form in "al-Mu'jam al-Kabir" (24/904). Details of the narration: This narration is via Ya'qub bin Muhammad al-Zuhri from Abu Bakr bin Abi Uways with this same chain, and it is similar to the author's narration coming later (number 7107), which is also via Isma'il bin Abi Uways. Corroborating chains and supporting reports: As a "shahid" for the basis of this hadith there is a similar hadith of Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) in the Shaykhayn (al-Bukhari and Muslim), as mentioned in the previous commentary. (44). Corroborating chains and supporting reports: For the last part of this hadith, namely "None of you truly believes …", the hadith of Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) in Sahih al-Bukhari (15) and Sahih Muslim (44) serves as a shahid.
