It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was sitting in the shade of a chamber, and the shade was about to shrink, when the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "A man will soon come to you who will look at you with the eye of a devil; when he comes, do not speak to him." Shortly afterwards a blue-eyed, squint-eyed man appeared. When the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) saw him, he called him and said: "Why do you and your companions revile me?" He said: Leave me, and I will bring them to you right away. He went and brought them, and they came and swore that they had neither said nor done any such thing, until he (peace and blessings be upon him) let it pass. Then Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, revealed this verse: "On the Day when Allah will resurrect them all, they will swear to Him as they swear to you, and they think that they are upon something. Behold, it is they who are the liars." [Al-Mujadilah: 18]
This hadith is sahih (authentic) on the condition of Imam Muslim, but the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it.

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Note / Clarification: In the manuscripts available to us the letter "za'" has been written as "nun", which is a copyists' error. The original word is "tajawwaza", meaning "tajawaza" (to overlook, pardon). This same word is also found in the narration of Imam al-Tabarani's "al-Mu'jam al-Kabir" (12307), whose wording is: "hatta tajawaza 'anhum" (until they were pardoned).
Grading: Its chain is "hasan" on account of Simak bin Harb. Reference / Source: Imam Ahmad narrated it likewise in 5/ (3277) through Abu Ahmad al-Zubayri and Yahya bin Abi Bukayr with the chain of Isra'il. Reference / Source: Imam Ahmad also narrated it in 4/ (2147) and (2407) by two different routes through Simak bin Harb.
