حدثني أبو بكر محمد بن أحمد بن بالَوَيهِ، حدثنا محمد بن أحمد بن النَّضْر، حدثنا معاوية بن عمرو، حدثنا زائدة، أخبرنا السائب بن حُبَيش الكَلَاعي، عن مَعْدان بن أبي طلحة اليَعمَري، قال: قال لي أبو الدرداء: أين مسكنُك؟ فقلت: في قريةٍ دونَ حِمصَ، فقال أبو الدرداء: سمعتُ رسول الله ﷺ يقول: "ما من ثلاثةٍ في قريةٍ ولا بَدْوٍ لا تقامُ فيهم الصلاةُ، إلَّا قد استَحوَذَ عليهم الشيطانُ"، فعليكَ بالجماعة، فإنما يأكل الذئبُ القاصيةَ (1).
هذا حديث صحيح الإسناد، ولم يُخرجاه حدثنا الحاكم الفاضل أبو عبد الله محمد بن عبد الله الحافظ إملاءً في ذي الحِجَّة سنة أربع مئة: [59 - ومن تفسير سورة الحشر] ﷽

It is narrated from Ma'dan bin Abi Talhah al-Ya'mari that Sayyiduna Abu al-Darda (may Allah be pleased with him) asked me: Where do you live? I said: In a village near Hims. So Sayyiduna Abu al-Darda (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "There are no three people in a village or in the desert among whom the prayer is not established (in congregation), except that Satan has gained mastery over them." So hold fast to the congregation, for the wolf eats only the sheep that strays far from the flock.
This hadith has a sahih (authentic) chain, but the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it.

(1) إسناده حسن إن شاء الله من أجل السائب بن حبيش. وهو مكرر (859).
Grading: Its chain is, if Allah wills, "hasan" on account of al-Sa'ib bin Hubaysh.
