أخبرنا الشيخ أبو بكر بن إسحاق، أخبرنا إسماعيل بن قُتيبة، حدثنا أبو بكر بن أبي شَيْبة، حدثنا عبد الله بن إدريس، عن أبيه، عن المِنهال بن عَمرو، عن قيس بن السَّكَن، عن عبد الله في قوله ﷿: ﴿يَسْعَى نُورُهُمْ بَيْنَ أَيْدِيهِمْ﴾ [الحديد: 12]، قال: يُؤتَون نورَهم على قَدْر أعمالهم، منهم مَن نورُه مثلُ الجبل، وأدناهم نورًا من نورُه على إبهامِه، يَطفَأُ مرةً ويَقِدُ أُخرى (1).
هذا حديث صحيح على شرط الشيخين، ولم يُخرجاه.

It is narrated from Qays bin al-Sakan (may Allah have mercy on him) that Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) said concerning the saying of Allah, the Mighty and Majestic: "Their light will be running before them" [Surah al-Hadid: 12]: "They will be given light according to their deeds. Among them will be one whose light is like a mountain (in greatness), and the one with the least light will be the one whose light is on his thumb, which will at times go out and at times shine."
This hadith is sahih (authentic) on the condition of the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim), but they did not record it.

(1) إسناده قوي. إدريس: هو ابن يزيد الأَوْدي، وعبد الله: هو ابن مسعود. وهو في "مصنف ابن أبي شيبة" 13/ 299.
Grading: Its chain is qawi (strong).
Technical note / Defect ('illah): The narrator "Idris" in the chain is Idris bin Yazid al-Awdi, and "'Abd Allah" is the Companion of the Messenger, 'Abd Allah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him).
Reference / Source: This narration is recorded in "Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah" 13/ 299.
وأخرجه بنحوه الطبري في "تفسيره" 27/ 223، وكذا ابن أبي حاتم كما في "تفسير ابن كثير" 1/ 84 من طريقين عن عبد الله بن إدريس، بهذا الإسناد.
Reference / Source: Imam al-Tabari recorded a narration of similar meaning in his "Tafsir" 27/ 223, and likewise Ibn Abi Hatim (as mentioned in Tafsir Ibn Kathir 1/ 84) narrated it by two routes through 'Abd Allah bin Idris with this same chain.
وهو قطعة من خبر طويل سلف عند المصنف برقم (3465) من طريق مسروق عن ابن مسعود، وليس فيه التلاوة.
Details of the narration: This is a portion of a long report that has passed earlier with the author (al-Hakim) at number (3465) by way of Masruq from Ibn Mas'ud, but it does not mention the recitation.
Grading: Its chain is qawi (strong).
