Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 382

حدَّثَناه أبو العباس محمد بن يعقوب، حدثنا الحسن بن علي بن عفّان العامري، حدثنا علي بن حَكِيم، حدثنا شَرِيك. وأخبرنا علي بن عبد الله الحَكِيمي، حدثنا العباس الدُّوري، حدثنا إسحاق بن منصور السَّلُولي، حدثنا شَرِيك، عن أبي العُمَيس عُتْبة بن عبد الله، عن مسلم البَطِين، عن أبي عمرو الشَّيباني قال: كنت أجلِسُ إلى عبد الله بن مسعود حَوْلًا لا يقول: قال رسول الله ﷺ، فإذا قال: قال رسول الله ﷺ، استقبَلَته الرِّعْدةُ، ثم قال: بل كذا، أو نحوُ ذا، أو قريبٌ من ذا، أو ما شاء الله (2).

It is narrated from Abu Amr al-Shaybani: I sat in the gathering of Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) for a year, and he would not (usually) say, "The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said." And whenever he did say, "The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said," trembling would come over him, and then he would say: "Rather like this, or similar to this, or close to this, or as Allah willed."

(2) خبر صحيح، وهذا إسناد حسن إن شاء الله تعالى من أجل شريك: وهو ابن عبد الله النخعي.
Grading: This report is "sahih", though because of the presence of Sharik bin Abd Allah al-Nakha'i this chain is of "hasan" level, God willing.
مسلم البطين: هو ابن عمران، ويقال: ابن أبي عمران، وأبو عمرو الشيباني: هو سعد بن إياس.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Clarification of the chain: Muslim al-Batin is Muslim bin Imran (or Ibn Abi Imran), and Abu Amr al-Shaybani is Sa'd bin Iyas.
وأخرجه ابن عساكر في "تاريخ دمشق" 33/ 164 من طريق أبي سعيد الصيرفي، عن أبي العباس محمد بن يعقوب الأصم، بهذا الإسناد.
Reference / Source: Ibn Asakir narrated it in "Tarikh Dimashq" (33/ 164) through the route of Abu Sa'id al-Sayrafi from Abu al-Abbas Muhammad bin Ya'qub al-Asamm with this same chain.
وأخرجه الدارقطني في "العلل" 13/ 265 - 266 عن إسماعيل الصفار، عن عباس بن محمد الدوري، به.
Reference / Source: Imam al-Daraqutni narrated it in "al-'Ilal" (13/ 265-266) through the route of Isma'il al-Saffar from Abbas bin Muhammad al-Duri.
وأخرجه الطبراني (8613)، والدارقطني 13/ 266 من طريقين عن علي بن حكيم به.
Reference / Source: Imam al-Tabarani (8613) and Imam al-Daraqutni narrated it through two different routes from Ali bin Hakim.
وأخرجه الشاشي في "مسنده" (762)، وابن عساكر 33/ 164 من طريق محمد بن سعيد بن الأصبهاني، عن شريك، به.
Reference / Source: Al-Shashi narrated it in his "Musnad" (762) and Ibn Asakir through the route of Muhammad bin Sa'id bin al-Asbahani from Sharik.
