It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) concerning the saying of Allah, the Mighty and Majestic: "And the moon split" [Surah al-Qamar: 1], that he said: "I saw the moon when it had split, and I saw the mountain between the two halves of the moon (in the gap between them)."
This hadith has a sahih (authentic) chain of narration, but the two Shaykhs did not record it with this wording.

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Note / Clarification: The printed edition has "Muhammad bin Sa'id bin Sabiq", whereas what is established in the manuscripts (Muhammad bin Sabiq) is correct, because the narrator known for narrating from Isra'il is "Muhammad bin Sabiq al-Bazzar" (of Kufa, then Baghdad), not "Muhammad bin Sa'id bin Sabiq" (of Rayy, then Qazvin), even though both are of the same generation (tabaqah).
Grading: This hadith is "sahih", and the chain is "hasan" on account of Simak bin Harb. 'Abd Allah is Ibn Mas'ud. Reference / Source: Ahmad (7/ 3924) narrated it from Mu'ammal bin Isma'il from Isra'il, and in it are the words: "from between the two clefts of the moon". Note / Clarification: See the hadith after it.
