Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 3794

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "For every individual among the children of Adam, a share of adultery has been written, which he will inevitably attain. So the adultery of the eye is looking, the adultery of the foot is walking, the adultery of the ear is listening, the adultery of the hand is grasping, the adultery of the tongue is speaking, and the part of the heart is to desire and wish; and the private part confirms all of that or denies it."
This hadith is sahih (authentic) on the condition of Imam Muslim, but the two Shaykhs did not record it.

Grading: This hadith is "sahih", and this chain is "qawi" (strong) on account of 'Ubayd bin Sharik ('Ubayd bin 'Abd al-Wahid bin Sharik) and Muhammad bin 'Ajlan. Abu Salih is Dhakwan al-Samman.
Reference / Source: Ahmad (14/ 8932) and Abu Dawud (2154) narrated it from Qutaybah bin Sa'id, and Ibn Hibban (4423) by way of 'Isa bin Hammad, both of them from al-Layth bin Sa'd, with this same chain.
Reference / Source: Ahmad (14/ 8526 and 16/ 10920), Muslim (2657) (21) and Abu Dawud (2153) narrated it by way of Suhayl bin Abi Salih from his father; so al-Hakim's counting it as a mustadrak (a hadith not found in the two Sahihs) is an oversight on his part.
Reference / Source: Likewise, Ahmad (13/ 7719), al-Bukhari (6243, 6612), Muslim (2657) (20), Abu Dawud (2152), al-Nasa'i (11480) and Ibn Hibban (4420) narrated it by way of Tawus, from Ibn 'Abbas, from Abu Hurayrah.
Reference / Source: Ahmad and Ibn Hibban also narrated it from Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) through various routes: by way of Hammam bin Munabbih (Ahmad 13/ 8215, Ibn Hibban 4421), al-Hasan al-Basri (Ahmad 14/ 8356), Abu Rafi' (8539), 'Abd al-Rahman al-A'raj (8598; also Ibn Hibban 4422), 'Abd al-Rahman bin Ya'qub (8843; also Ibn Hibban 4419) and Abu Salamah (Ahmad 15/ 9563). Some narrations contain more wording than others.
