حَدَّثَنَا علي بن حَمْشَاذَ العَدْل ومحمد بن أحمد الدارَبردي، قالا: حَدَّثَنَا الحارث بن أبي أسامة، حَدَّثَنَا سُرَيج بن النعمان الجَوهَري، حَدَّثَنَا عبد الله بن نافع، عن عاصم بن عمر، عن أبي بكر بن سالم، عن سالم، عن ابن عمر قال: قال رسول الله ﷺ: "أنا أولُ من تَنشَقُّ الأرضُ عنه، ثم أبو بكرٍ، ثم عمرُ، ثم آتي أهلَ البَقِيع، فيُحشَرون معي، ثم أَنتظرُ أهلَ مكة". قال: وتلا عبدُ الله بن عمر: ﴿يَوْمَ تَشَقَّقُ الْأَرْضُ عَنْهُمْ سِرَاعًا ذَلِكَ حَشْرٌ عَلَيْنَا يَسِيرٌ﴾ [ق: 44] (1).

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "I am the first one from whom the earth will split open (that is, I will be the first to rise from the grave), then Abu Bakr, then Umar. Then I will come to the people of al-Baqi', and they will be gathered with me. Then I will wait for the people of Makkah." The narrator said: After this Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) recited this verse: "On the Day the earth splits open from them, (they will come out) hastening; that is a gathering easy for Us" [Surah Qaf: 44].
This hadith has a sahih (authentic) chain of narration, but the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it.

(1) إسناده ضعيف لضعف عاصم بن عمر - وهو ابن حفص بن عاصم بن عمر بن الخطاب - وقد اضطرب في إسناده هو أو الراوي عنه عبد الله بن نافع - وهو الصائغ المدني - فقد اختُلف فيه وفي حفظه لِين، وبه أعلُّه الذهبي في "تلخيصه"، وانظر بيان الاضطراب والخلاف في إسناده في تعليقنا على الحديث في "صحيح ابن حبان" (6899).
Grading: This chain is "da'if"; Asim bin Umar (Ibn Hafs bin Asim) is weak.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): There is idtirab (inconsistency) in its chain, either from Asim or from his narrator Abd Allah bin Nafi' (al-Sa'igh al-Madani); there is disagreement about Abd Allah bin Nafi' and there is "softness" in his memory, and al-Dhahabi declared it defective for this reason in al-Talkhis. See the details of the idtirab in the notes on "Sahih Ibn Hibban" (6899).
وأخرجه الطبراني في "الكبير" (13190)، وأبو نعيم في "دلائل النبوة" (26)، وابن الجوزي في "العلل المتناهية" (1527) من طرق عن سريج بن النعمان، عن عبد الله بن نافع عن عاصم بن عمر، عن أبي بكر بن عمر بن عبد الرحمن بن عبد الله بن عمر بن الخطاب، عن سالم بن عبد الله، عن أبيه عبد الله بن عمر وهذا أحد أوجه الخلاف فيه.
Reference / Source: Al-Tabarani recorded it in "al-Kabir" (13190), Abu Nu'aym in "Dala'il al-Nubuwwah" (26) and Ibn al-Jawzi in "al-Ilal al-Mutanahiyah" (1527) via Surayj bin al-Nu'man, from Abd Allah bin Nafi', from Asim bin Umar, from Abu Bakr bin Umar bin Abd al-Rahman bin Abd Allah bin Umar bin al-Khattab, from Salim, from Ibn Umar. This is one of the forms of the disagreement over it.
وأخرجه كذلك عبد الله بن أحمد في "فضائل الصحابة" (507)، وابن شاهين في "مذاهب أهل السنة" (153) من طريق هارون بن موسى الفَرْوي، عن عبد الله بن نافع، به - بذكر أبي بكر بن عمر.
Reference / Source: Abd Allah bin Ahmad recorded it in "Fada'il al-Sahabah" (507) and Ibn Shahin in "Madhahib Ahl al-Sunnah" (153) via Harun bin Musa al-Farwi, from Abd Allah bin Nafi' (with the mention of Abu Bakr bin Umar).
وقال ابن الجوزي: هذا حديث لا يصح، وقال الذهبي في ترجمة عبد الله بن عمر العمري من "ميزان الاعتدال": حديث منكر جدًّا. وسيأتي برقم (4478) من حديث عاصم بن عمر عن عبد الله بن دينار عن ابن عمر.
Grading: Ibn al-Jawzi said: This hadith is not sahih. Al-Dhahabi said in "Mizan al-I'tidal", in the biography of Abd Allah bin Umar al-Umari: It is a highly munkar hadith.
Note / Clarification: It will come at no. (4478) as the hadith of Asim bin Umar, from Abd Allah bin Dinar, from Ibn Umar.
وأما أول الحديث، وهو قوله: "أنا أول من تنشق الأرض عنه" فقد صحَّ عن النَّبِيّ ﷺ من حديث أبي بكر الصديق عند أحمد 1/ (15)، ومن حديث أبي هريرة عنده 16 / (10972) وعنه مسلم (2278)، ومن حديث أبي سعيد الخدري عند البخاري (2412).
Corroborating chains and supporting reports: The first part of the hadith, "I am the first for whom the earth will split open", is authentically established from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): as the hadith of Abu Bakr al-Siddiq (Ahmad: 1/ 15), the hadith of Abu Hurayrah (Ahmad: 16/ 10972, Muslim: 2278) and the hadith of Abu Sa'id al-Khudri (al-Bukhari: 2412).
