It is narrated from Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) concerning this saying of Allah Almighty, "So that He may enrage the disbelievers through them" [Surah al-Fath: 29], that she said: (What is meant by it is) the Companions of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him); (those who came later) were commanded to seek forgiveness (pray for forgiveness) for them (the Companions), but instead they began to revile them.
This hadith is sahih (authentic) on the condition of the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim), but they did not record it.
