It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: "Were it not for the covenant that Allah Almighty took from the People of the Book, I would not have told you anything (of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him))." Then he recited this verse: "And when Allah took a firm covenant from those who were given the Book, that you shall surely make it clear to the people and not conceal it." [Surah Al Imran: 187]
This hadith is sahih (authentic) on the condition of Imam Muslim; I know of no hidden defect ('illah) in it, but the two Shaykhs did not record it.

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Grading: Its chain is "sahih". Technical note / Defect ('illah): "Thabit" mentioned in the chain is Thabit bin Aslam al-Bunani, and "Abu Rafi'" is Nufay' al-Sa'igh. Reference / Source: Abu Awanah narrated it in his "Sahih" (8568) and Ibn Asakir in "Tarikh Dimashq" (67/ 354) through two different routes from Hammad bin Salamah with this same chain. Note / Clarification: A narration of the same meaning will come from Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) through another chain later under number (3111); however, there he recited verse (159) of Surah al-Baqarah. See the rest of its takhrij there.
