Qatadah recited this saying of Allah, the Mighty and Majestic: "And if Allah were to extend provision for His servants, they would rebel on the earth; but He sends down in due measure whatever He wills" [Surah al-Shura: 27], and then narrated from Sayyiduna Abu al-Darda (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Never does the sun rise except that two angels are sent on its two sides, who make all the people of the earth hear, except jinn and mankind: O people! Come to your Lord, for that which is little and suffices (one's need) is better than that which is abundant and distracts (from the truth). And never does the sun set except that two angels on its two sides call out: 'Allahumma 'ajjil li-munfiqin khalafan, wa 'ajjil li-mumsikin talafan' (O Allah, hasten a replacement for the one who spends, and hasten ruin for the wealth of the one who withholds)."
This hadith is sahih (authentic) in its chain of narration, and the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it.

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Grading: Its chain is "hasan" because of Khulayd al-Asri. Technical note / Defect ('illah): The narrator Abu Qilabah al-Raqashi (whose name is Abd al-Malik bin Muhammad al-Basri) is la ba'sa bihi (there is no harm in him); he is strong in hadith. Reference / Source: It was narrated by Imam Ahmad (36/ 21721) and Ibn Hibban (686 and 3329) via Qatadah, with this chain, but they did not mention the recitation of the verse in it. Technical note / Defect ('illah): The mention of the recitation is something Abd al-Samad alone narrated from Hisham bin Abi Abd Allah al-Dastuwa'i, because when Abu Dawud al-Tayalisi in his "Musnad" (1072) and his (Hisham's) son Mu'adh al-Dastuwa'i (with reference to al-Tabari: Tahdhib al-Athar 1/ 267, 269) and Ibn al-Sunni in "al-Qana'ah" (32) narrated it from Hisham, they did not mention the recitation in this hadith. Corroborating chains and supporting reports: The last part of the hadith (the supplication for the one who spends and the one who withholds) is supported by the hadith of Abu Hurayrah in al-Bukhari (1442) and Muslim (1010), but with mention of the morning (isbah) in place of sunset. Note / Clarification: "al-Janabah" means: side and direction. And "al-Thaqalan" means humans and jinn.
