(1). It is reported from Sayyiduna Farwah bin Musayk al-Muradi (may Allah be pleased with him) that he asked the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) about Saba', (saying): O Messenger of Allah, what is Saba': a man, a mountain or a valley? The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Rather, he was a man to whom ten children were born; four went towards Syria and six towards Yemen. Those who went to Syria were Lakhm, Judham, Amilah and Ghassan, and those who went to Yemen were Himyar, Madhhij, Azd, Kindah, the Ash'aris and Anmar, from whom the tribe of Bajilah came."

Grading: The hadith is hasan, but this chain is da'if because "Thabit bin Sa'id" and "his father" are unknown (majhul); however, both have been corroborated. Note / Clarification: Al-Humaydi is Abd Allah bin al-Zubayr al-Asadi al-Makki. Reference / Source: Al-Bukhari recorded it in his "Tarikh" (7/ 126) as mu'allaq from al-Humaydi, with this same chain. Reference / Source: Ibn Abi Asim recorded it in "al-Ahad wa al-Mathani" (1700, 2469) and al-Tabarani in "al-Kabir" (18/ 838) via Muhammad bin Abi Umar al-Adani, from Faraj bin Sa'id, with this same chain. 6/ 492. Reference / Source: Ahmad (39/ 24009/ 87), Abu Dawud (3988) and al-Tirmidhi (3222) recorded it via al-Hasan bin al-Hakam al-Nakha'i, from Abu Sabrah Abd Allah bin Abis al-Nakha'i, from Farwah bin Musayk. Grading: This chain is hasan because of "Abu Sabrah"; al-Tirmidhi graded it hasan, and the hafiz Ibn Kathir declared its chain good (jayyid) in his "Tafsir" (6/ 492). Reference / Source: Ahmad also recorded it (24009/ 88) via Abu Janab al-Kalbi, from Yahya bin Hani', from Farwah. Technical note / Defect ('illah): Abu Janab is da'if.
