Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 3620

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ubayy bin Ka'b (may Allah be pleased with him) that when a quarter of the night had passed, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) would stand and say: "O people, remember Allah! O people, remember Allah! The Quaking (the Hour) has come, followed by the one that comes after it. Death has come with its agonies; death has come with its agonies." Ubayy bin Ka'b (may Allah be pleased with him) said: O Messenger of Allah, I send blessings upon you abundantly; how much of my supplication should I devote to you (for sending blessings)? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "As much as you wish." I said: A quarter? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "As much as you wish, but if you do more than that, it is better for you." I said: Half? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "As much as you wish, but if you do more than that, it is better for you." I said: Two-thirds? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "As much as you wish, but if you do more than that, it is better for you." I said: O Messenger of Allah, shall I devote all of my supplication to you (for sending blessings)? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Then it will suffice for your worries, and your sins will be forgiven."
This hadith has a sahih (authentic) chain of narration, but the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it.
