It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id al-Khudri and Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "When a man wakes his wife at night and the two of them pray two rak'ahs together, both of them are recorded among the men who remember (Allah) much and the women who remember (Him)."
This hadith is sahih (authentic) on the condition of the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim), but they did not record it. Abu Nu'aim did not narrate it as marfu', but Isa bin Ja'far, who is a trustworthy (thiqah) narrator, narrated it as marfu' (traced to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him)).

(1309). Grading: Its chain is sahih, but Isa bin Ja'far al-Razi (though he is among the thiqah narrators) erred in combining the hadiths of Abu Sa'id and Abu Hurayrah. Important point: The correct view is that the hadith of Abu Sa'id, in the narration of Sufyan al-Thawri, is mawquf. That is how it was narrated from Sufyan by Abu Nu'aym al-Fadl bin Dukayn in the author's work here, by Abd al-Razzaq in his "Musannaf" (4738), and by Muhammad bin Kathir al-Abdi in Abu Dawud's "Sunan" (1309). (1204). Corroborating chains and supporting reports: Others besides Sufyan narrated it from Ali bin al-Aqmar and made the hadith marfu' from both Abu Sa'id and Abu Hurayrah, such as al-A'mash, as has passed in the author's work at number (1204).
