حدثنا علي بن حَمْشاذ العدل، حدثنا هشام بن علي السَّدُوسي، حدثنا موسى بن إسماعيل، حدثنا أبو عَوَانة، أخبرني عمر بن أبي سَلَمة، عن أبيه قال: حدثني أسامة بن زيد قال: كنتُ في المسجد فأتاني العبَّاسُ وعليٌّ فقالا لي: يا أسامةُ، استأذِنْ لنا على رسول الله ﷺ، فدخلتُ على النبي ﷺ فاستأذنتُه فقلت له: إنَّ العبَّاس وعليًّا يستأذِنانِ، قال: "هل تدري ما حاجَتُهما؟ " قلت: لا والله ما أَدري، قال: "لكنِّي أَدْري، ائذَنْ لهما" فدخلا عليه، فقالا: يا رسول الله، جئناك نسألُك: أيُّ أهلِك أحبُّ إليك؟ قال: "أَحبُّ أهلي إليَّ فاطمةُ بنتُ محمدٍ" فقالا: يا رسول الله، ليس نسألُك عن فاطمةَ، قال: "فأسامةُ بنُ زيدٍ الذي أَنْعَمَ اللهُ عليه وأَنعمتُ عليه" (1).
هذا حديث صحيح الإسناد، ولم يُخرجاه.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Usamah bin Zayd (may Allah be pleased with him) that I was in the mosque when Sayyiduna Abbas and Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with them both) came to me and said: "O Usamah, seek permission for us (to meet) the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)." I went to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said that Abbas and Ali (may Allah be pleased with them both) were asking permission. He (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: "Do you know what they have come for?" I said: "By Allah, I do not know." He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "But I know; let them come in." The two of them came in and said: "O Messenger of Allah, we have come to ask you which of your family is most beloved to you?" He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Fatimah bint Muhammad is the most beloved to me of my family." They said: "O Messenger of Allah, we are not asking you about Fatimah (may Allah be pleased with her)." He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Then Usamah bin Zayd, upon whom Allah has bestowed favour and upon whom I have bestowed favour."
This hadith has a sahih (authentic) chain of narration, but the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it.

(1) إسناده ضعيف لتفرُّد عمر بن أبي سلمة به ففيه ضعيف، والراجح فيه أنه يقتل من حديثه ما توبع عليه، وقد ضعَّف الذهبي في "تلخيصه".
Grading: Its chain is da'if (weak) because "Umar bin Abi Salamah" alone narrates it, and he is weak. The preferred view about him is that only those of his hadiths in which he is corroborated are accepted. Al-Dhahabi declared it weak in "al-Talkhis".
وأخرجه الترمذي (3819) عن أحمد بن الحسن، عن موسى بن إسماعيل، بهذا الإسناد. وقال: حديث حسن، وكان شعبة يضعِّف عمر بن أبي سلمة.
Reference / Source: Al-Tirmidhi (3819) recorded it from Ahmad bin al-Hasan, from Musa bin Isma'il, with this same chain, and called it "hasan". Shu'bah, however, used to declare Umar bin Abi Salamah weak.
