Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Note / Clarification: Manuscript (Z) has "Abu Ishaq Sulayman al-Razi", which is a mistake.
Grading: Its chain is sahih, but it is the hadith of Ata' bin Yazid al-Laythi from Abu Sa'id al-Khudri.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Ishaq bin Ahmad bin Mihran erred and made it the hadith of Abu Hurayrah. Imam Ahmad differed from him, narrating it in his "Musnad" (18/ 11891) from Ishaq bin Sulayman al-Razi and making it Ata' bin Yazid al-Laythi from Abu Sa'id, along the well-known route (al-jaddah). Al-Hakim's words after the hadith apparently indicate that for him too the hadith is from Abu Sa'id and not from Abu Hurayrah. If that is how it was in the original of his book, then what occurs in our manuscripts is a mistake by a copyist that others then copied. And Allah knows best.
Reference / Source: Without mentioning Malik's recitation of the verse, it was recorded by al-Bukhari (1469), Muslim (1053), Abu Dawud (1644), al-Tirmidhi (2024), al-Nasa'i (2380, 11819, 11820) and Ibn Hibban (3400) via several routes from Malik, from al-Zuhri, from Ata' bin Yazid al-Laythi, from Abu Sa'id al-Khudri: that some people of the Ansar asked the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and he gave them, etc.
Reference / Source: Likewise Ahmad (18/ 1890) recorded it via Ma'mar, and al-Bukhari (6470) via Shu'ayb bin Abi Hamzah, both from al-Zuhri, with this same chain.
Reference / Source: Ahmad (17/ 11091 and 18/ 11435) recorded something similar via Ata' bin Yasar, and Ibn Hibban (3399) via Sa'id al-Maqburi, both from Abu Sa'id al-Khudri.
