It is narrated from Sayyidah Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) that she said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "Ma'add bin Adnan bin Udad bin Zand bin al-Bara, (who is) of (the descendants of) A'raq al-Thara." She said: Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) recited this verse: "And (We destroyed) Ad and Thamud and the people of the well (Ashab al-Rass), and many generations between them" [Surah al-Furqan: 38], whom none knows except Allah. Sayyidah Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) said: By A'raq al-Thara is meant Isma'il bin Ibrahim (peace be upon them both), by Zand is meant Hamaysa', and by Bara is meant Nabt.
This hadith has a sahih (authentic) chain of narration, but the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it.

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Note / Clarification: In the manuscripts, in both places here, this word is (with the letter ba'), while in manuscript (Z), in the author's later hadith number (3771), it is "ثرا" (with tha'). "Thara" and "bara" are among the names for soil, and it also fits with his father's name "A'raq al-Thara". In some sources it is also "يرى" (with ya'), which al-Dhahabi mentioned in "al-Mushtabih", and Ibn Nasir al-Din al-Dimashqi recorded its vocalisation in "Tawdih al-Mushtabih" (9/ 209) with a fathah on the first letter and the ra' followed by a short alif (maqsur).
Note / Clarification: It occurred like this in the narration, and it is an "oversight" (dhuhul): the narrator combined two verses in it: the first, Surat al-Najm verse 50: ﴿وَأَنَّهُ أَهْلَكَ عَادًا الْأُولَى﴾ (And that He destroyed the former 'Ad), and the second, Surat al-Furqan verse 38: ﴿وَعَادًا وَثَمُودَ وَأَصْحَابَ الرَّسِّ﴾ (And 'Ad and Thamud and the companions of al-Rass).
Grading: Its chain is "da'if". Technical note / Defect ('illah): Musa bin Ya'qub al-Zam'i is alone in narrating it; there was weakness (lin) in his memory, and he was inconsistent ("idtirab") in this chain. Here he narrated it from his paternal uncle al-Harith bin Abd al-Rahman, from Umm Salamah, although no biography of al-Harith has been found, and it is not known whether he heard from Umm Salamah or not. Later with the author (3771) he named him "al-Harith bin Abd Allah bin Zam'ah" and made it his narration from his father from Umm Salamah. In a narration in al-Bayhaqi's "al-Dala'il" (1/ 177) his kunyah is given as "Abu al-Huwayrith".
