Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 3546

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Usayd (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Eat olive oil and also anoint (your bodies) with it, for it comes from a blessed tree."
This hadith has a sahih (authentic) chain of narration, but the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it, and it also has a supporting narration (shahid) through another sahih chain.

Hadith Grading
Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Grading: This hadith is "hasan li-ghayrihi" (hasan due to supporting reports), and this chain has some weakness (lin).
Technical note / Defect ('illah): The narrator Ata' in it (who is al-Shami) is unknown (la yu'raf), and Abd Allah bin Isa is alone in narrating from him.
Note / Clarification: Abu Nu'aym is al-Fadl bin Dukayn, and Sufyan is Sufyan al-Thawri.
Reference / Source: It was recorded by Imam Ahmad (25/ 16054 and 16055), al-Tirmidhi (1852) and al-Nasa'i (6669) through several routes from Sufyan, with this chain.
Grading: Imam al-Tirmidhi said: This hadith is "gharib" from this route.
Reference / Source: Imam al-Nasa'i (6668) recorded it through Hasan bin Salih bin Hayy, from Abd Allah bin Isa, from Ata', from a man of the Ansar (who was not named), from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him).
Corroborating chains and supporting reports: The hadith of Umar (may Allah be pleased with him), which comes later with the author (al-Hakim) at number (7319), serves as a supporting report (shahid) for it, even though there is disagreement over whether it is connected (mawsul) or mursal, while its narrators are trustworthy.
Note / Clarification: See the next hadith (of Abu Hurayrah, may Allah be pleased with him).
