أخبرنا أبو عبد الله الصَّفّار، حدثنا أحمد بن مِهْران، حدثنا أبو نُعَيم، حدثنا سفيان، عن الأعمش، عن مُسلِم البَطِين، عن سعيد بن جُبير، عن ابن عبَّاس: أنه كان يقرؤها: (أَذِنَ لِلَّذِينَ يُقاتِلُونَ بأنَّهم ظُلِمُوا وَإِنَّ اللهَ على نَصْرِهِم لَقَدِيرٌ) [الحج: 39]، قال: هي أولُ آيَةٍ نَزَلَت في القتال (1).
هذا حديث صحيح على شرط الشيخين، ولم يُخرجاه.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) concerning this statement of Allah Almighty: "He has given permission to those who fight, because they were wronged; and indeed, Allah is able to give them victory" [Surah al-Hajj: 39], that he recited it (in this way) and said: "This is the very first verse revealed concerning fighting (jihad)."
This hadith is sahih (authentic) on the condition of the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim), but they did not record it.

(1) حديث صحيح، وهذا إسناد حسن من أجل أحمد بن مهران: وهو ابن خالد الأصبهاني. أبو نعيم: هو الفضل بن دكين، وسفيان: هو الثوري.
Grading: (1) The hadith is "sahih", and this chain is "hasan" because of Ahmad bin Mihran (Ibn Khalid al-Asbahani). Abu Nu'aym: al-Fadl bin Dukayn; Sufyan: al-Thawri.
وأخرجه البيهقي في "دلائل النبوة" 2/ 579 عن أبي عبد الله الحاكم، بهذا الإسناد.
Reference / Source: Al-Bayhaqi narrated it in "Dala'il al-Nubuwwah" (2/ 579) through al-Hakim.
وقد سلف برقم (2407) من طريق إسحاق الأزرق عن سفيان الثوري، وانظر هناك التعليق على القراءة.
Note / Clarification: It has already passed at (2407) via Ishaq al-Azraq from Sufyan al-Thawri. See the comment on the recitation there.
