Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 3493

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) concerning this statement of Allah Almighty: "formed and unformed" [Surah al-Hajj: 5], that he said: Mukhallaqah (formed) refers to the (embryo) that takes on a living form, and ghayr mukhallaqah (unformed) refers to that which is miscarried incomplete (before its development is complete).
The chain of narration of this hadith is sahih (authentic), but the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it.

Hadith Grading
Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Grading: (1) Its chain is "da'if".
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Sa'id bin Yazid al-Taymi is "majhul" (unknown) (no one narrates from him other than Isma'il al-Razi), and al-Dhahabi in Tarikh al-Islam did not report any criticism or commendation of him. And the narrations of Simak bin Harb from Ikrimah contain "idtirab" (inconsistency).
Reference / Source: We did not find it with a connected chain anywhere other than with the author, but al-Suyuti (al-Durr al-Manthur: 6/ 10) mentioned that Ibn Abi Hatim transmitted it and declared it "sahih".
