(1). It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) that on the night the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was taken on the Night Journey (Mi'raj), he (peace and blessings be upon him) met Sayyiduna Ibrahim, Sayyiduna Musa and Sayyiduna Isa (peace be upon them). They began discussing the Hour among themselves. First they asked Sayyiduna Ibrahim (peace be upon him), but he had no knowledge of it (of its time). Then Sayyiduna Musa (peace be upon him) was asked, and he too had no knowledge of it. Then the discussion turned to Sayyiduna Isa (peace be upon him), and he said: "Allah Almighty has made a covenant with me regarding all matters other than the actual time of the Hour's occurrence (that is, no one but Allah knows its time)." Then he mentioned the emergence of the Dajjal and said: "I will descend and kill him. Then, when people return to their lands, they will be confronted by Gog and Magog (Ya'juj and Ma'juj), who 'will rush down from every elevation.' They will not pass by any water without drinking it, nor by anything without destroying it. Then the people will cry out humbly to Allah, and Allah Almighty will cause Gog and Magog to die, until the earth, polluted by their stench, will cry out to Allah. Then the people will turn to me, and I will supplicate, and Allah Almighty will send down rain from the sky, which will carry their bodies and throw them into the sea. Then the mountains will be crushed to dust, and the earth will be spread out and extended like adim (tanned, cleaned leather). And Allah has promised me that when these things happen, the Hour will be for people like a pregnant woman whose term is complete, whose family does not know when she will suddenly give birth, by night or by day." Sayyiduna Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I found the confirmation of this in the Book of Allah: "Until, when Gog and Magog are let loose, and they rush down from every elevation, and the true promise draws near" [Surah al-Anbiya: 96, 97]. He said: On the Day of Resurrection, every place from which people come forth will be called hadab (an elevation).
The chain of narration of this hadith is sahih (authentic), but the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it. As for Mu'thir, he is not an unknown narrator; he narrated hadith from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud and Sayyiduna al-Bara' bin Azib (may Allah be pleased with them both), and a large group of the Tabi'un narrated from him.

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Grading: (1) This chain has "weakness" because Mu'thir bin 'Afazah is alone in narrating this wording (siyaq). Technical note / Defect ('illah): He alone mentions the meeting of the three prophets with our Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and their discussing the Hour on the night of the Isra'. Moreover, the blowing away of the mountains and the stretching of the earth will only happen with the onset of the Hour, not before it. Corroborating chains and supporting reports: However, the destruction of Gog and Magog (after the killing of the Dajjal) is supported by the long hadith of al-Nawwas bin Sam'an in Muslim (2937) on the signs of the Hour, but it differs in that Allah will send birds upon them, not water, and the birds will carry them and throw them wherever Allah wills. Reference / Source: As for this hadith of Mu'thir, Ibn Majah (4081) recorded it from Muhammad bin Bashshar, from Yazid bin Harun, with this chain. Reference / Source: Ahmad (6/ 3556) recorded it from Hushaym, from al-'Awwam bin Hawshab, with it. It will come with the author (al-Hakim) at nos. (8712) and (8852) via two routes from Yazid bin Harun.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): (1) In the sources available to us we have not found anyone narrating from him other than Jabalah bin Suhaym, and his being declared thiqah is not transmitted from anyone other than al-'Ijli and Ibn Hibban. And Allah knows best.
