It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both); he said: "The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was given seven of the Mathani and the Tuwal (the long surahs), and Sayyiduna Musa (peace be upon him) was given six."
This hadith is sahih (authentic) on the condition of the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim), and they did not record it.

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): In the narration of the author (al-Hakim), and from him al-Bayhaqi in "Shu'ab al-Iman" (2193), it came as "wa-l-tuwal" with a waw. The basic function of the waw is conjunction, where what follows it differs from what precedes it, whereas in this report the word "al-tuwal" came as a description of al-mathani. With others besides the author it came without the waw, which is the regular usage.
Grading: Its chain is sahih. Note / Clarification: Ishaq bin Ibrahim: he is Ibn Rahawayh, and Jarir: he is Ibn Abd al-Hamid. Reference / Source: Abu Dawud (1459) narrated it from Uthman bin Abi Shaybah, and al-Nasa'i (989) from Muhammad bin Qudamah, both of them from Jarir, with this chain. Muhammad bin Qudamah did not mention Musa (peace be upon him) in it. Reference / Source: And al-Nasa'i (990) and (11212) also narrated it without mentioning Musa (peace be upon him), via Sharik al-Nakha'i, from Abu Ishaq al-Sabi'i, from Sa'id bin Jubayr. See the next report. Reference / Source: And Mujahid narrated from Ibn Abbas that he said about al-sab' al-mathani: "They are the seven long surahs." Al-Tabari narrated it in his "Tafsir" (14/ 52), al-Tahawi in "Mushkil al-Athar" (3/ 246), and al-Tabarani in "al-Kabir" (11038). Grading: And its chain is sahih. Grading: As for what is narrated from him (Ibn Abbas), that al-sab' al-mathani is "Surah al-Fatihah", it is da'if (weak). Comments on it have already passed with the author at number (2043) and after it. Note / Clarification: "Al-mathani": this is the plural of "mathna", from tathniyah in the sense of repetition, because in these surahs the mention of obligations, rulings and admonitions is repeated.
