حدثني محمد بن صالح بن هانئ، حدثنا السَّرِيُّ بن خُزَيمة، حدثنا أبو نُعيم، حدثنا سفيان، حدثنا سِمَاك بن حَرْب، عن سعيد بن جُبَير، عن ابن عبَّاس ﴿إِنَّ فِي ذَلِكَ لَآيَةً﴾ الحجر: 77]، قال: أمَا تَرَى الرجلَ يُرسِل بخاتَمِه إلى أهله فيقول: هاتُوا كذا وكذا، فإذا رأَوه عَرَفُوا أنه حقٌّ (3). هذا حديث صحيح على شرط مسلم، ولم يُخرجاه. It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) concerning the saying of Allah Almighty: "Indeed, in that is a sign." [Surah al-Hijr: 77] He said: "Do you not see that when a man sends his ring (as a token) to his family and says: 'Give such and such a thing,' then when they see it they know that it is true?"
This hadith is sahih (authentic) on the condition of Muslim, and the two Shaykhs did not record it.

(3) إسناده حسن من أجل سماك بن حرب. أبو نعيم: هو الفضل بن دُكين، وسفيان: هو الثوري. وأخرجه الطبري في "تفسيره" 14/ 47، وكذا ابن أبي حاتم 8/ 2751 من طريق أبي أسامة، عن سفيان الثوري، بهذا الإسناد - وزاد فيه قبل قوله "أما ترى الرجل": علامة؛ يعني في تفسير قوله: "لآيةً". Grading: Its chain is hasan because of Simak bin Harb. Note / Clarification: Abu Nu'aym: he is al-Fadl bin Dukayn, and Sufyan: he is al-Thawri. Reference / Source: Al-Tabari narrated it in his "Tafsir" (14/ 47), and likewise Ibn Abi Hatim (8/ 2751), via Abu Usamah, from Sufyan al-Thawri, with this chain. Details of the narration: And in it he added, before the words "Do you not see the man", the word "'alamah" (a sign), meaning in the explanation of the word "la-ayah".
