Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 3371

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Indeed, your Lord Almighty says: If My servants obeyed Me, I would give them rain to drink by night and make the sun rise upon them by day, and I would not make them hear the sound of thunder."
The chain of this hadith is sahih (authentic), but the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it.

Hadith Grading
Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Grading: Its chain is da'if because of the weakness of Sadaqah bin Musa, and al-Dhahabi declared him feeble (wahin) in his "Talkhis".
Note / Clarification: Sumayr: he is Ibn Nahar, and his name is also given as Shutayr; Muhammad bin Wasi' is the only one who narrates from him.
Reference / Source: It will come with the author (al-Hakim) at number (7849) through the route of Abu Dawud al-Tayalisi from Sadaqah bin Musa, and it is found through this same route in Ahmad (14/ 8708).
Corroborating chains and supporting reports: 'Amr bin Marzuq corroborated Musa bin Isma'il and Abu Dawud al-Tayalisi in Ibn al-A'rabi's "Mu'jam" (1139); all three of them narrate it from Sadaqah bin Musa with this same chain.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Ja'far bin Muhammad al-Razi differed from them, narrating it from 'Abd al-Mu'min bin 'Ali, from 'Abd al-Salam bin Harb, from Muhammad bin Wasi', from Sumayr bin Nahar, from Abu Sa'id al-Khudri (al-Bayhaqi, "al-Zuhd" 718). This narration is "shadh" (anomalous), and the "mahfuz" (preserved) one is the hadith of Sadaqah. Ibn al-Jawzi transmitted in "al-'Ilal al-Mutanahiyah" (1321) from al-Daraqutni that he said about this narration: "The hadith is not established."
