أخبرني أبو بكر الشافعي، حدثنا إسحاق بن الحسن، حدثنا أبو حُذَيفة، حدثنا سفيان، عن الأعمش، عن المِنهال بن عمرو، عن سعيد بن جُبير، عن ابن عبَّاس: أنه سُئِلَ عن قوله ﷿: ﴿وَكَانَ عَرْشُهُ عَلَى الْمَاءِ﴾ [هود: 7]، على أيِّ شيء كان الماءُ؟ قال: على مَتْن الرِّيح (2).
هذا حديث صحيح على شرط الشيخين، ولم يُخرجاه.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that he was asked about this saying of Allah, the Mighty and Majestic: "And His Throne was upon the water" [Surah Hud: 7]: upon what was the water (resting)? He said: "Upon the back of the wind."
This hadith is sahih (authentic) on the condition of the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim), and they did not record it.
