حدثنا أبو العبَّاس محمد بن يعقوب، حدثنا إبراهيم بن مرزوق، حدثنا أبو داود الطَّيالسي، حدثنا شُعْبة، عن سَلَمة بن كُهَيل قال: سمعت مُسلِمًا البَطِين يحدِّث عن سعيد بن جُبير، عن ابن عبَّاس قال: كانت المرأة تطوف بالبيت في الجاهلية وهي عُرْيانة وعلى فَرْجِها خِرقةٌ، وهي تقول: اليومَ يَبدُو بعضُه أو كلُّهُ … وما بَدَا منه فلا أُحِلُّهُ فنزلت هذه الآية: ﴿قُلْ مَنْ حَرَّمَ زِينَةَ اللَّهِ﴾ [الأعراف: 32] (1).
هذا حديث صحيح على شرط الشيخين.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that he said: In the days of ignorance a woman would circumambulate the House while naked, with (only) a rag tied over her private parts, and she would say (this verse of poetry): "Today some of it or all of it will show, / and whatever shows of it, I do not make lawful (to anyone)." Then this verse was revealed: "Say: Who has forbidden the adornment of Allah" [Surah al-A'raf: 32].
This hadith is sahih (authentic) on the condition of the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim).

(1) إسناده صحيح. أبو داود الطيالسي: اسمه سليمان بن داود، ومسلم البطين: هو ابن عمران أو ابن أبي عمران.
Grading: Its chain is sahih.
Note / Clarification: Abu Dawud al-Tayalisi's name is Sulayman bin Dawud, and Muslim al-Batin is Ibn Imran or Ibn Abi Imran.
وأخرجه مسلم (3028)، والنسائي (3933) و (1118) من طريق محمد بن جعفر غُندَر، عن شعبة، بهذا الإسناد.
Reference / Source: Muslim recorded it (3028), and al-Nasa'i (3933) and (1118), by way of Muhammad bin Ja'far Ghundar, from Shu'bah, with this chain.
