Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 3284

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that he said: The clothing of Sayyiduna Adam and Sayyidah Hawwa (peace be upon them both) was like fingernails (smooth and shining). Then when they tasted (the fruit of) the tree, they began to fasten leaves of Paradise over themselves. He said: (Those leaves) were of the fig tree.
This hadith has an authentic (sahih) chain of narration, but the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it.

Grading: Its chain is very weak on account of Abd al-Aziz bin Aban, for he is matruk (abandoned), and some accused him of lying.
Corroborating chains and supporting reports: But he is not alone in narrating it from Sufyan, for Mu'awiyah bin Hisham (who is saduq, truthful) corroborated him in it with al-Bayhaqi in "al-Sunan al-Kubra" (2/ 244): he narrated it from Sufyan al-Thawri, except that he said in it: "I think it is from Amr bin Qays al-Mula'i," and he gave its chain up to Ibn Abbas. So he mentioned it with doubt.
Reference / Source: Ibn Abi Hatim recorded it in his "Tafsir" (5/ 1459), and Abu al-Shaykh in "al-'Azamah" (1047), by way of Abu Yahya al-Himmani, from al-Nadr, from Ikrimah, from Ibn Abbas.
Grading: This chain is very weak; al-Nadr (Ibn Abd al-Rahman al-Khazzaz) is matruk (abandoned).
