It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id al-Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) that when the Companions of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) sat together, their conversation centred on deep understanding of the religion (fiqh), unless a man recited a surah of the Qur'an or asked someone to recite one.
This hadith is sahih (authentic) on the condition of Imam Muslim, but they did not record it.

Reference / Source: Imam al-Bayhaqi narrated it in "al-Madkhal" (419) from Imam al-Hakim with this same chain.
