حدثني أبو بكر محمد بن أحمد بن بالَوَيهِ، حدثنا محمد بن شاذانَ الجَوهَري، حدثنا مُعلَّى بن منصور، حدثنا ابن أبي زائدة، عن محمد بن إسحاق، عن أبان بن صالح، عن القعقاع بن حَكيم، عن سَلْمى أخت أبي رافع (3)، عن أبي رافع قال: أمَرنا رسول الله ﷺ بقتل الكلاب، فقال الناس: يا رسول الله، ما أُحِلَّ لنا من هذه الأُمَّة التي أمرتَ بقتلها؟ فأنزل الله: ﴿يَسْأَلُونَكَ مَاذَا أُحِلَّ لَهُمْ قُلْ أُحِلَّ لَكُمُ الطَّيِّبَاتُ وَمَا عَلَّمْتُمْ مِنَ الْجَوَارِحِ مُكَلِّبِينَ﴾ [المائدة: 4] (1).

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Rafi' (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) commanded us to kill dogs. The people said: "O Messenger of Allah! What is permitted to us from this kind (of animal) which you have commanded to be killed?" Then Allah Almighty revealed this verse: "They ask you what has been made lawful for them. Say: Lawful for you are all good things, and (the game caught by) the hunting animals you have trained" [Surah al-Ma'idah: 4].
This hadith has an authentic (sahih) chain of narration, but the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it.

(3) تحرَّف في (ز) و (ب) لفظ "أخت" إلى: أخي، ومكانه في (ص) و (ع) بياض، ووقع في "السنن" للبيهقي 9/ 235 - وقد رواه عن المصنف-: أم أبي رافع، وهو خطأ، وفي أكثر المصادر التي خرَّجت الحديث: أم رافع، وقد جمع بينهما الحافظ ابن حجر في أثناء تخريجه للحديث في "إتحاف المهرة" (17710) فقال: عن سلمى أم رافع وهي أخت أبي رافع؛ وكأنه بهذا ذهب إلى أنَّ سلمى هذه غير سلمى زوج أبي رافع التي ترجم لها في "الإصابة في تمييز الصحابة" 7/ 709، وقد وقع في حديث رواه عبد الرحمن بن أبي رافع في "السنن" و"مسند أحمد" 39/ (23862) قال: عن عمَّته سلمى عن أبي رافع، وذكر حديثًا آخر. وعلى كلا الأمرين فإنَّ سلمى هذه لها صحبة، والله تعالى أعلم.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): In manuscripts (Z) and (B) the word "أخت" (sister) has been corrupted into "أخي", and in manuscripts (S) and ('A) its place is left blank. In al-Bayhaqi's "al-Sunan" (9/ 235) (which he narrated from the author (al-Hakim)) it occurs as "أم أبي رافع", which is a mistake. Most of the sources that recorded this hadith have "أم رافع". Al-Hafiz Ibn Hajar combined the two while recording the hadith in "Ithaf al-Maharah" (17710), saying: "From Salma Umm Rafi', and she is the sister of Abu Rafi'"; it is as though he took the view that this Salma is different from Salma the wife of Abu Rafi', whose biography he gave in "al-Isabah fi Tamyiz al-Sahabah" (7/ 709). In a hadith narrated by Abd al-Rahman bin Abi Rafi' in "al-Sunan" and "Musnad Ahmad" (39/ (23862)), he said: from his paternal aunt Salma, from Abu Rafi', and he mentioned another hadith. Either way, this Salma was a Companion. And Allah Most High knows best.

Grading: Its chain is hasan, and Muhammad bin Ishaq has been corroborated.
