حدثنا أبو محمد أحمد بن عبد الله المُزَني، حدثنا أحمد بن نَجْدة القُرشي، حدثنا سعيد بن منصور، حدثنا ابن المبارك، أخبرنا مصعب بن ثابت، حدثني داود ابن صالح قال: قال لي أبو سَلَمة بن عبد الرحمن يا ابنَ أخي، هل تدري في أيِّ شيء نزلت هذه الآية: ﴿اصْبِرُوا وَصَابِرُوا وَرَابِطُوا﴾ [آل عمران: 200]؟ قال: قلت: لا، قال: يا ابنَ أخي، إني سمعت أبا هريرة يقول: لم يكن في زمان النبيِّ ﷺ غزوٌ يُرابَطُ فيه، ولكن انتظارُ الصلاةِ بعدَ الصلاة (1).

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said (in explanation of verse 200): "In the time of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) there was no battle (of this kind) in which (constant) guard was kept; rather, in this verse, 'Be patient, persevere, and stand guard' [Surah Al Imran: 200], (standing guard means) waiting for one prayer after another."
This hadith has a sahih (authentic) chain of narration, and the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it.

Grading: Its chain is da'if because of Mus'ab bin Thabit.
وأخرجه البيهقي في "شعب الإيمان" (2638) عن أبي عبد الله الحاكم، بهذا الإسناد.
Reference / Source: Al-Bayhaqi recorded it in "Shu'ab al-Iman" (2638) from Abu Abd Allah al-Hakim with this chain.
وهو في "الزهد" لابن المبارك (408)، ومن طرق عن ابن المبارك أخرجه الطبري في "تفسيره" 4/ 222، وابن المنذر في "تفسيره" (1296)، والواحدي في "أسباب النزول" (290).
Reference / Source: It is in Ibn al-Mubarak's "al-Zuhd" (408), and through various routes from Ibn al-Mubarak it was recorded by al-Tabari in his "Tafsir" (4/ 222), Ibn al-Mundhir in his "Tafsir" (1296), and al-Wahidi in "Asbab al-Nuzul" (290).
وأخرجه البيهقي أيضًا (2637) من طريق أبي عمران موسى بن إسماعيل، عن ابن المبارك، عن داود بن صالح، به. بإسقاط مصعب بن ثابت، وهذه رواية شاذّة.
