It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) concerning this saying of Allah Almighty: "And those of you who die and leave behind wives, they (the wives) shall wait by themselves for four months and ten days" [Surah al-Baqarah: 234]; he said: (Allah) did not say that they must spend their waiting period in their own houses. So the woman whose husband has died may stay wherever she wishes (during her waiting period).
