أخبرني محمد بن يزيد العدل، حدثنا إبراهيم بن أبي طالب، حدثنا يعقوب بن إبراهيم الدَّورَقي، حدثنا إسماعيل -وهو ابن عُليَّة- عن يونس، عن ابن سِيرِين، عن ابن عبَّاس: أنه قام فخَطَبَ الناسَ هاهنا، فقرأ عليهم سورةَ البقرة ويبيِّن لهم منها، فأتى على هذه الآية: ﴿إِنْ تَرَكَ خَيْرًا الْوَصِيَّةُ لِلْوَالِدَيْنِ وَالْأَقْرَبِينَ﴾ [البقرة: 180] فقال: نُسِخَت هذه؛ ثم قرأ حتى أتى على هذه الآية: ﴿وَالَّذِينَ يُتَوَفَّوْنَ مِنْكُمْ وَيَذَرُونَ أَزْوَاجًا﴾ إلى قوله: ﴿غَيْرَ إِخْرَاجٍ﴾ [البقرة: 234 - 240] فقال: وهذه (1).

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that he stood here (in Basrah) and addressed the people. He recited Surah al-Baqarah to them and explained its rulings to them. When he reached this verse: "if he leaves wealth, to make a bequest for parents and near relatives (is obligatory)" [Surah al-Baqarah: 180], he said: This has been abrogated. Then he continued reciting until he reached this verse: "And those of you who die and leave behind wives" up to "without being turned out" [Surah al-Baqarah: 234 - 240], and he said: And this (verse) too (is abrogated).
This hadith is sahih (authentic) on the condition of the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim), and they did not record it.

Grading: This report is sahih; its narrators are trustworthy, except that it is munqati' (broken), as has already been explained under no. (3120).
