It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the verse, "So wherever you turn, there is the Face of Allah" [Surah al-Baqarah: 115], was revealed about this: that in voluntary prayer you may pray on your mount facing whichever direction your mount is facing.
This hadith is sahih (authentic) on the condition of Imam Muslim, but the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it.

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Grading: Its chain is sahih. Technical note / Defect ('illah): Abu Usamah refers to 'Hammad bin Usamah'. Reference / Source: Ahmad recorded something similar in 8/ (4714) and 9/ (5001), Muslim in (700) (33) and (34), al-Tirmidhi in (2958), and al-Nasa'i in (10930), via various routes from Abd al-Malik bin Abi Sulayman with this same chain; Important point: hence al-Hakim's inclusion of it as a supplement (istidrak) is an oversight on his part.
