حدثني علي بن حَمْشاذَ العَدْل، حدثنا الحارث بن أبي أسامة، حدثنا أبو النَّضْر، حدثنا حمزة بن المغيرة، عن عاصم، عن أبي العاليَةِ، عن ابن عبَّاس في قوله تعالى: ﴿الصِّرَاطَ الْمُسْتَقِيمَ﴾ قال: هو رسولُ الله ﷺ وصاحباه. قال: فذكَرنا ذلك للحسن، فقال: صَدَقَ والله ونَصَحَ هو رسول الله ﷺ وأبو بكر وعمر ﵄ (1).

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) concerning the saying of Allah Almighty: "The straight path" [Surah al-Fatihah: 6], that he said: "It refers to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and his two companions (Sayyiduna Abu Bakr and Umar, may Allah be pleased with them both)." The narrator said: We mentioned this to Imam al-Hasan al-Basri, and he said: "By Allah! He spoke the truth and gave sincere counsel. Indeed, it refers to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and Abu Bakr and Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both)."
This hadith has a sahih (authentic) chain, but the two Shaykhs (Imam Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it. [Surah al-Baqarah]

(1) إسناده قوي. أبو النضر: هو هاشم بن القاسم، وعاصم هو ابن سليمان الأحول، وأبو العالية: هو رفيع بن مهران الرِّياحي.
Grading: Its chain is qawi (strong).
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Abu al-Nadr is Hashim bin al-Qasim, 'Asim is Ibn Sulayman al-Ahwal, and Abu al-'Aliyah is Rufay' bin Mihran al-Riyahi.
وأخرجه الطبري في "تفسيره" 1/ 75 عن عبد الله بن كثير أبي صديف، وابن أبي حاتم في "تفسيره" أيضًا 1/ 30 عن سعدان بن نصر، كلاهما عن أبي النضر هاشم بن القاسم، بهذا الإسناد - إلّا أنهما لم يذكرا فيه ابنَ عبَّاس وجعلاه من قول أبي العالية. وابن كثير لم نقف على حاله، وسعدان بن نصر ثقة.
Reference / Source: Al-Tabari recorded it in his "Tafsir" 1/75 from 'Abdullah bin Kathir Abu Sudayf, and Ibn Abi Hatim in his "Tafsir" as well 1/30 from Sa'dan bin Nasr, both of them from Abu al-Nadr Hashim bin al-Qasim, with this chain - except that neither of them mentioned Ibn 'Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) in it, and they made it a statement of Abu al-'Aliyah.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): We have not found information on the status of Ibn Kathir, and Sa'dan bin Nasr is thiqah.
