It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "In Surah al-Baqarah there is a verse which is the chief of all the verses of the Qur'an. If it is recited in a house in which there is a devil, he leaves it. It is 'Ayat al-Kursi'."
