It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: We were with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) in a cave when the surah "Wa al-mursalati 'urfa" was revealed. I took it directly from his blessed mouth (peace and blessings be upon him) while his blessed tongue was still moist with its recitation. I do not remember with which verse he (peace and blessings be upon him) ended the surah: "Then in what statement after this will they believe?" [Surah al-Mursalat: 50] or "And when it is said to them: Bow down (before Allah), they do not bow down." [Surah al-Mursalat: 48]
This hadith has an authentic (sahih) chain of narration, but the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it.

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Grading: This hadith is sahih, and this chain is "hasan" because of 'Asim bin Abi al-Nujud. Reference / Source: Ahmad 6/ (3574) and Ibn Hibban (707) recorded it by way of Sufyan bin 'Uyaynah with this same chain. ". Reference / Source: Ahmad also narrated it in 7/ (4335) by way of Hammad bin Salamah from 'Asim, but without the words: "So I do not know with which (verse) it ended…". Reference / Source: Ahmad 7/ (4404) narrated it, similar to the narration of Sufyan from 'Asim, by way of al-A'mash, from Abu Razin Mas'ud bin Malik, from Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him). Grading: And its chain is sahih. (708). Details of the narration: The basis of the hadith, without the sentence ("So I do not know with which it ended…"), was narrated at greater length than here by Ibrahim al-Nakha'i from his two maternal uncles 'Alqamah bin Qays and al-Aswad bin Yazid al-Nakha'i, from Ibn Mas'ud. Reference / Source: It was recorded from the two of them separately by Ahmad 7/ (4004), (4005), (4063), (4069) and (4357); al-Bukhari (1830), (3317), (4930), (4931) and (4934); Muslim (2234); al-Nasa'i (3852) and (11578); and Ibn Hibban (708).
Note / Clarification: The meaning (of the author) is that they did not record it with this particular wording; otherwise the basis of the hadith is in the two Shaykhs (al-Bukhari and Muslim), as already mentioned.
