Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 2978

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) recited it this way: "Now Allah has lightened (the burden) for you, and He knows that there is weakness in you" [Surah al-Anfal: 66], and here he (peace and blessings be upon him) read the word "du'fan" with raf' (dammah).
This hadith has a sahih (authentic) chain, but the two Shaykhs did not record it.

Grading of the chain: This chain has "lin" (softness, i.e. slight weakness) because of Sallam bin Sulayman (Ibn Sawwar Abu al-'Abbas al-Mada'ini). Al-Dhahabi declared it wahi in his "Talkhis".
Reference / Source: Al-Tabarani ("al-Saghir" 1128), Ibn 'Adi ("al-Kamil" 3/ 311) and Tammam ("al-Fawa'id" 509) narrated it via two routes from Sallam bin Sulayman, with this same chain.
Readings: (ضُعفًا), with damma on the dad, was read by Nafi', Abu 'Amr, Ibn Kathir, Ibn 'Amir and al-Kisa'i. 'Asim and Hamzah read (ضَعفًا) with fatha on the dad. ("al-Sab'ah", p. 308-309.)
