Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 2976

It is narrated from Sayyiduna al-Bara' bin Azib (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) recite the verse "The gates of heaven will not be opened for them" [Surah al-A'raf: 40] with takhfif (that is, reading the word "tuftahu" without a shaddah).
This hadith has a sahih (authentic) chain, but the two Shaykhs did not record it.

Hadith Grading
Explanation & Benefits

Grading of the chain: This chain is "very weak" (da'if jiddan). Al-Dhahabi declared Ahmad bin Muhammad al-Sijzi wahi (weak) in "Siyar A'lam al-Nubala'" (14/ 296), and also gave his biography in "Mizan al-I'tidal". And concerning Harun bin Hatim he said in the "Talkhis" that Abu Zur'ah abandoned him.
Technical note: This report is a fragment of the long hadith of al-Bara' containing the story of the Prophet's (peace and blessings be upon him) admonition to his companions at the grave. It is in the Musnad of Ahmad (30/ 18534) via Abu Mu'awiyah with this same chain, which is "sahih", but it does not explicitly state the "takhfif" (light pronunciation) of this word.
Reference: It has already passed in full with the author (al-Hakim) at number (107) via 'Abd Allah bin Numayr and Abu Mu'awiyah, but without this word.
Readings: (تُفتَح), with ta' and lightly (with sukun on the fa'), was read by Abu 'Amr (of the seven readers). Hamzah and al-Kisa'i read (يُفتَح) with ya', lightly. The rest read (تُفتَّح) with two ta's, the second with shaddah. ("al-Sab'ah", p. 280.)
